Eri - Eritrea, A Spotlight
For a senior thesis capstone, I developed a visually driven, socially engaged campaign that reimagines Eritrea’s cultural identity through a collection of conceptual poster designs, accompanied by self-promotional materials like zines and stickers.

problem
How can a socially-based, design-driven campaign that employs visual storytelling and narrative-building reposition Eritrea's cultural identity through internal pride within the Eritrean community and external awareness of its culture?
solution
Rather than a static body of work, Eri—abbreviates Eritrea and functions as a creative title for the project—evolves into an immersive, dynamic cultural experience spanning from eye-catching poster designs and flyers, to self-promotional collateral such as zines and stickers.
This project was inspired by my own journey: born in the United States and separated from Eritrea since childhood, I often felt a gap between my roots and my reality. Even though I was raised in a vibrant African-centered home, it was learning Eritrean traditions, language, and customs that truly anchored me and bridged that cultural divide.

This project blossomed into a vibrant visual design system for a campaign, crafting a renewed gathering place for the Eritrean diaspora. The posters boldly celebrate Eritrea's culture, drawing inspiration from treasured family photographs and cherished heirlooms. Choosing a campaign format rather than a single static piece reflects my desire to spark a broader sense of Eritrean awareness.
