UNSD 11: A Sustainable Brand Identity
As an independent self-directed project, created a comprehensive brand identity for one of the United Nations' Sustainable Goals.
Year :
2025
Industry :
N/A
Client :
United Nations Sustainable Development
Project Duration :
1-2 Months

Problem :
How can visual identity and branding be used to advocate for more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities?

Solution :
Created a unified campaign identity inspired by UN Sustainable Development Goal 11, using visual storytelling and strategic messaging to promote community awareness, participation, and sustainable urban development.
The Challenge :
The primary challenge of this project was developing a design that aligned with the mission and strategic messaging of UN Sustainable Development Goal 11: “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.”
Through three rounds of revisions, I refined my concepts to arrive at a final visual direction. The selected design emphasizes unity, wholeness, and a sense of interconnectedness. Overall, I wanted it to reflect the importance of creating inclusive and sustainable communities where individuals can thrive together.

The Story :
With the final design selected, the next step was exploring how it would pair with the “Sustainable Cities and Communities” wordmark. After experimenting with several variations, I ultimately chose selection 5 for its rounded composition and balanced integration of the graphic and typography. I appreciated how the curved form naturally nestled the design and wordmark together, creating a cohesive pairing without allowing either element to overpower the other.

The color palette is built around three primary hues: Smooth Black, Sustainable Green, and Eco-Friendly Yellow. Rather than relying on a complementary scheme, the analogous tones work together to communicate environmental responsibility, optimism, and a hopeful vision for a more sustainable, community-driven future.

Building a system studies was the next and final appraoch in the process…
